UF Wins ‘Tennis on Campus’ Delray Beach Open Heading Into Florida Sectional Championships

In a repeat of last year’s final at the USTA Florida ‘Tennis on Campus’ stop at the Delray Beach Open, the season leader University of Florida defeated the University of Miami 29-19 in the World TeamTennis format.

The UM-“A” team in their semifinal denied an all-UF final, defeating the UF-“B” squad, while UF-“A” in their semifinal defeated Florida Gulf Coast University’s “A” team. It was UF’s fifth title in eight events this season.

The matches were contested during the ATP Delray Beach Open, which concludes at the end of the week.

“As always the players had a fun time on and off the court with the professional tennis all around the facility,” said USTA Florida Tennis on Campus Coordinator Desirae McLaughlin.

The FGCU-“B” team won the Silver Bracket over Florida Atlantic University’s “A” team in the final.

Other teams participating among the six schools and 12 teams were the University of Tampa and the University of North Florida.

The 2017-18 USTA Florida ‘Tennis on Campus’ season will conclude this coming weekend with the sectional championships, Feb. 24-25 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, where the University of Central Florida will defend its title from last season.
