Amplify is USTA Florida’s long-term initiative to engage and amplify Black voices throughout the Florida tennis community. Through open discussion and outreach, this initiative seeks to advance racial equality in tennis.
Staff training and education is a key component in the organization engaging the Black community. The focus is to educate staff about racial equality and how to actively advance it in both policy and practice.
The goal will be to bring about awareness of ways to be more inclusive within the organization. Professional Development and equality training can guarantee that staff be trained to have proper conversations with Black colleagues and in Black communities.
Diverse coach development is another critical target area that must be considered when bridging the racial divide within the Florida tennis community. The goal is to ensure there are more opportunities for black coaches to gain and display their skills.
The organization works alongside our industry partners to provide Black tennis coaches with more knowledge through management education, tournament directing resources, and networking opportunities.
USTA Florida must offer more tennis programming in Black communities in order to positively impact natural growth of black participation.
The visibility of tennis within these communities will lead to more Black people being exposed to the sport and can also serve to educate staff, volunteers and industry partners about how to build better relationships with Black communities throughout the state.
The USTA Florida Internship is designed to provide a robust experience that matches the intern’s educational and/or career goals, with USTA Florida assigning tasks to meet these.
