New ‘Masters Tennis’ Division for Greater Volusia Tennis League in 2015

The Greater Volusia Tennis League (GVTL), which serves approximately 1,000 local players weekly with matches throughout Volusia and Flagler counties in East-Central Florida, is expanding its league offerings in 2015 with a new “Masters Tennis” division.

The new Masters Tennis format is played inside a 60-foot-lined court (as opposed to a regulation-size 78-foot court). Using slightly slower and lower-bouncing “orange balls” that are not as difficult to get to, as well as are easier on arms and joints, Masters Tennis is bringing former players back to the game, and introducing new players with an easy-to-learn yet competitive format.

“Masters Tennis is a new program designed to bring in new players, bring back former players, ease injured players back into playing safely, and give players with reduced mobility a chance to enjoy this great lifetime sport,” says Dave Brown, GVTL president and tennis director at Plantation Bay Country Club in Ormond Beach. “Using this format, anybody can play and enjoy this great game.”

The GVTL Masters Tennis league will run from Feb. 5 to April 2 at various area clubs in 2015. In addition, free tennis festivals with instruction, games, music, prizes, and refreshments will be held at the following tennis facilities:
