The No. 1-ranked Barry Buccaneers won the inaugural 2020 ITA Division II Women’s Indoor Championship over the weekend, defeating Hawai’i Pacific 4-0 at the host University of Central Oklahoma facility in Edmond, Okla.

“We played as a team three great matches in a place we are really not used to playing,” said Barry women’s head coach Avi Kigel. “It was the first goal of the season to try and win it and I’m very proud of everybody. Hopefully we can continue this way and keep winning and put ourselves in a position to win more championships.”

In the semifinals, Barry beat No. 5 seed Nova Southeastern 4-2, while No. 6-seeded Hawai’i Pacific upset No. 2 Columbus State 4-3.

Playing the six singles position for Barry from Nos. 1-6 in the final were senior Jil Engelmann who was undefeated during the tournament, Xiyao Wang, Julie Razafindranaly, Daniela Farfan, Mariia Skyba and Eleonore Barrere.
