The annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer Circuit Powered by UTR will make four Florida stops, leading to the 2017 ITA National Summer Championships, hosted by Texas Christian University on Aug. 12-15.

This is the first year the circuit is utilizing the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) as the official tournament management system for the events. While targeted to collegiate competitors, the events are open to all players.

“The ITA Summer Circuit has always been about providing our college athletes and advanced-level high school juniors and seniors match play opportunities during a time of the year where those opportunities can be scarce,” said ITA Director of Championships Cory Brooks.

For the second consecutive year the ITA Summer Circuit Powered by UTR will feature more than 50 tournaments, all held on ITA member campuses, during a six-week stretch from late June to the end of July.

“Playing either on Friday through Sunday or Saturday through Monday gives college players opportunities to compete in the summer and still have a summer job or go to school,” said Betsy Kuhle, chair of the ITA Summer Circuit committee and retired Western Michigan women’s tennis coach. “This year the ITA has done an exceptional job by having tournaments hosted in 24 different states.”

Florida tournaments:

June 24 — Florida State University, Tallahassee
July 8 — Warner University, Lake Wales
July 22 — University of Florida, Gainesville
July 29 — Palm Beach Atlantic University, West Palm Beach

The circuit culminates with the ITA National Summer Championships on Aug. 12-15 at Texas Christian University. The Top 5 men and Top 5 women in the ITA Summer Circuit Points Race will automatically qualify for the ITA National Summer Championships, as well as receive a $600 travel reimbursement for the championships.
