Florida 10-and-Under Tennis Orange, Green Ball Circuits, Championships Unveiled for 2017

Bobby Curtis Junior State Championships Junior Team Tennis Junior Tournaments Youth Tennis News

Florida tennis players age 10-and-under at the orange- and green-ball levels in 2017 now have a tournament circuit and season-ending championship all their own.

The green ball circuit will be 16 qualifying tournaments from Jan.-Sept. 2017, and the orange ball circuit 12 qualifying tournaments, both leading to respective season-ending tournaments for qualifiers.

The USTA Florida Section last year introduced the 10 & Under Youth Progression Pathway, growing unique tournament players age 10 and under from 400 to more than 1,900 players. Players on the Pathway engage in online tracking of results with game-play elements to engage players, such as earning “stars” and “trophies” as they progress.

“We have seen a large increase in 10-and-under participation, and anticipate another leap forward in 2017 with the addition of an orange ball circuit and championships added to the green ball circuit,” says USTA Florida Director of Competitive Tennis Jason Gilbert. “This reinforces the right-sized courts, balls and racquets children need to be playing with for their optimal development and success. It also helps children who have already had tennis success move on to the next stage in their development.”
