Volunteer Opportunity: 2023 Arthur Ashe Kids Day

August 26, 2023

ABOUT ARTHUR ASHE KIDS’ DAY

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day (AAKD) powered by USTA Net Generation® is an annual children’s tennis event that takes place at the end of August.  AAKD honors Arthur Ashe’s legacy of humanitarianism, leadership and academic excellence and helps promote the sport of tennis to young people.

We hope that you will join us for an exciting day of tennis and entertainment. AAKD will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023. AAKD features a host of interactive games, activities, pro player interaction, live music and entertainment throughout the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. AAKD is the largest single-day grass-roots tennis and entertainment event in the world (with more than 25,000 guests), allowing young people of all ages and ability levels to discover the many benefits that go hand-in-hand with an involvement in tennis.

Our volunteers help support the USTA mission to attract, engage and retain a new generation of diverse tennis participants, and they are key to making the day a success.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers for AAKD are community and/or tennis enthusiasts seeking to help kids and families experience a fun day of tennis and learning. The majority of volunteers serve on tennis courts and facilitate experiences and activities. Throughout the day, 12-16 courts are in use, each with a different theme and activity, developed for different ages and skill levels. Themes include “Skills Challenge,” “Let’s Hit,” “Serve em’ Up,” “Get Fit and Play,” “Family Fun,” “Ball Scramble,” “Beat the Pro” and “Speed Zone” among others.

The on-court volunteers assist the children with the activities, which may include handing out racquets, demonstrating equipment, collecting balls, setting up the court, feeding balls to kids, managing lines and egress, and answering questions. There are a limited number of volunteers who serve off-court by assisting with line control at face painting and juggling stations, greeting guests, and providing wayfinding assistance to activities and courts.

Volunteer shifts may start as early as 7:30 AM and end as late as 5:00 PM and be approximately 7 hours long. Official shift times will be sent closer to the event.
