May is National Tennis Month and USTA Florida is thrilled to serve up a full calendar of events celebrating on and off the courts! Whether you’re picking up a racquet for the first time, cheering on local champions, honoring the rich culture of Florida tennis, or appreciating the abundance of benefits tennis offers, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this May. 

Hit to Be Fit  

One of the highlights of National Tennis Month is the second annual Hit to Be Fit Day, happening on Saturday, May 10. This nationwide event celebrates the health and wellness benefits of tennis, featuring fun, fast-paced play like Red Ball Tennis and Cardio Tennis Triples. It’s a great way for players of all ages and skill levels to get moving, stay active, and enjoy the game with their local community. Find a Hit to Be Fit event near you! 

Honoring Heritage and Health 

May is also a time to recognize the broader impact of tennis beyond the baseline. We’re proud to celebrate: 

  • Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month 
  • Jewish Heritage Month 
  • Mental Health Awareness Month 

Through storytelling, spotlights, and community features, we’ll be highlighting diverse voices, honoring contributions to tennis, and promoting the mental wellness benefits the sport provides, from camaraderie and competition to confidence and emotional resilience. 

Coach & Camp Counselor Trainings: Growing the Game 

Developing future tennis leaders is a key focus for USTA Florida and we’re offering several community coach and counselor trainings this month:

Events & Championships Across Florida 

Special Olympics Florida State Games (May 16–17) 

The Special Olympics Tennis State Games are one of the best events in the sport.

An inspiring weekend of inclusion and competition where athletes from across the state will showcase their skills and sportsmanship. USTA Florida and Special Olympics are always recruiting volunteers. If you want to make a difference at this year’s State Games, click here. 

Junior Team Tennis (JTT) Spring Championships (May 31 & June 1) 

The season’s top youth teams will face off in this high-energy finale full of team spirit and rising talent at the JTT Spring State Championships. JTT is not just organized tennis, it helps build life skills for participants by showing them how to work on a team, socialize with others, and promotes healthy living.  

Division II NCAA Tennis Championships (May 20–25 at Sanlando Park, Altamonte Springs)  

Some of the nation’s top college athletes will compete right here in Florida! Cheer on Florida schools like Barry, West Florida, Flagler, Saint Leo, and many more! 

2025 ITF World Tennis Masters Tour 

Florida will soon be on the world stage! The 2025 ITF World Tennis Masters Tour World Championships, hosted at Palm Beach Garden Tennis and Pickleball Center will welcome top amateur players from over 35 countries to compete in the Men’s and Women’s 65+ and 70+ age divisions. 

  • Team Championships: May 11–16, 2025 
  • Individual Championships: May 17–24, 2025 

This prestigious event is a testament to Florida’s global reputation as a premier tennis destination. 

Roland Garros on the Horizon 

While we celebrate local achievements, all eyes are also on Roland Garros (French Open), where Florida favorites like Coco Gauff, Ben Shelton, and more are preparing to shine on the red clay. Keep an eye out for thrilling matches and powerful performances throughout May and early June.
