Vero Beach International Tennis Open Won by Chile’s Daniela Seguel

The Vero Beach International Open, a women’s USTA Pro Circuit and ITF World Tennis Tour event, was settled on Sunday when No. 6 seed Daniela Seguel of Chile defeated No. 7 seed Tereza Mrdeza of Croatia 7-5, 6-4 in the final at the Grand Harbor Golf & Tennis Club in Vero Beach, Fla.

Seguel dropped only one set during the tournament, in the semifinals defeating No. 5 seed Renata Zarazua 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

She improved to 16-7 career in ITF World Tennis Tour finals, capturing her first of the year after going 1-1 in finals in 2019. It was the first-ever singles title won on U.S. soil for the 27-year-old Chilean Fed Cup player. She rose to No. 262 on the WTA rankings.

The 29-year-old Mrdeza was seeking a ninth career ITF title and her first since 2018.

The doubles final featured two unseeded teams with Connie Hsu of Taiwan and Panna Udvardy of Hungary defeating Spaniards Irene Burillo and Andrea Lazaro 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.

The ITF World Tennis Tour serves as the entry-level for professional tennis and sits between the ITF Junior World Tennis Tour and the elite levels of professional tennis. The results of ITF tournaments are incorporated into the ATP and WTA rankings.
