USTA Florida Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with New Programs and Events

Diversity

Hispanic Heritage Month In Article Photo_EnglishUSTA Florida is kicking off its celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month this September with the beginning of new tennis programs in Miami and events in Central and South Florida. Since 2013, USTA Florida has partnered with 10 facilities through its Hispanic Outreach Initiative ‘Tenis para Todos’ or ‘Tennis for Everyone.’ These facilities provide year-round tennis programs for children and adults of all ages and levels of play with the opportunity to try, learn and practice the sport as well as free events for the whole family.

In September, the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department will start offering tennis as part of the after-school program at Henderson and Armbrister parks through the partnership with USTA Florida and the equipment grant received by the USTA Florida Section Foundation. Private lessons would also be available for those who would like to take it to the next level. There will be two free events for the whole family with food, games, prizes and lots of fun activities to kick off these programs.

Throughout this month, USTA Florida also will be celebrating Hispanic heritage and tennis on its Facebook page (Facebook.com/USTAFlorida) and Twitter feed (@USTAFlorida, #tenisparatodos), with Hispanic player and providers profiles and Spanish-language posts.

“Hispanic Heritage Month is a great time of the year for us. We celebrate our culture, our language and the positive impact we continue to have in our communities,” said Maria Romo-Jackson, diversity and marketing coordinator for USTA Florida.  “We love to spend time together with our families and what better way to do it than on the tennis courts.”
