The University of Florida club tennis team dominated the FSU Clash at the Capital over the weekend, defeating Florida State University on their home turf 30-5 in the final of the USTA Florida “Tennis on Campus” circuit event in Tallahassee.

UF swept all five matches in the Gold Bracket to capture their second win of the 2019-20 season.

Women’s Singles: Sarah Perkins (UF) d. Alina Montoto (FSU) 6-1
Men’s Singles: David Burns (UF) d. Andrew Vargas (FSU) 6-0
Mixed Doubles: Aslesha Lissanevitch/Johann Rapp (UF) d. Camille Pastrapes/Nathan Zhou (FSU) 6-2

The champion UF team advanced to the final by defeating the University of South Florida-“A” team in the semifinals, while FSU-“A” beat the USF-“B” team in their semifinal.

The FSU-“C” team won the Silver Bracket final also with a clean sweep, trouncing the FSU-“D” team 30-17.

The USF-“C” squad came on top in the Bronze Bracket, topping FSU-“E” in the final 22-19.

Six schools competed in the weekend event: FSU, UF, USF, the University of Central Florida, the University of Tampa, and the University of North Florida.

The next event on the 2019-20 USTA Florida “Tennis on Campus” schedule will be the University of South Florida-hosted USF Bull Run on Oct. 26 in Tampa.

The USTA’s Tennis On Campus program is designed to provide college students with opportunities for team camaraderie, social networking, and rivaled competition through tennis without the rigors of a NCAA varsity program. Tennis on Campus offers fun co-ed team-based play (using the World TeamTennis scoring format), regional and national championship competition, and helps students maintain active and healthy lifestyles through their college years. Currently the program is offered on more than 500 college campuses. The USTA Tennis on Campus team format features men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles, with a minimum of two men and two women per team.
