Military families will be hitting balls on flight decks of ships and playing glow-in-the-dark tennis when the Blue Sky Foundation and USTA Florida host events in August and November in the Jacksonville area.

“Boots on the Court,” an initiative of the Blue Sky Foundation, will offer an afternoon of free tennis clinics to active personnel, spouses, children, veterans and Wounded Warriors at Naval Station Mayport, north of Jacksonville Beach, on August 26, 2017.

“The program includes an hour youth clinic for ages 4-8, an hour junior clinic for ages 9-15, and a 90-minute adult clinic for ages 16 and over,” says Blue Sky Foundation President and former tennis pro Dick Stockton. “This will be our very first trip to a navy base. Weather permitting, the clinics will be held on the flight deck of the USS Iwo Jima, an amphibious assault ship.”

USTA Florida on Nov. 17 will host a Lights Out XGLOsive event at the military base NAS in Jacksonville. The event will take place from 6-8 p.m. and is open to youth (age 6+) and adults. There will be two sessions limited to 75 participants per session. Attendees must have base access ID or be a guest of someone with ID.

XGLOsive turns traditional tennis into a fun, no-pressure social experience for people of all ages and abilities. Unlike traditional tennis events, XGLOsive takes the pressure off and turns the music and the fun way up.
