Top Canadian Pros Entered in Florida US Open Playoffs; Entries Close May 23

Registration closes on May 23 for the USTA Florida Section’s 2016 US Open National Playoffs, to be held June 3-5 in Tallahassee at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center at Florida State University.

Included among the entries are ATP World Tour Top 200-ranked Canadian Davis Cup players Philip Bester, a former French Open juniors finalist, and Peter Polansky, the former No. 1-ranked Canadian.

The US Open is the only Grand Slam tennis tournament where anyone 14 years or older can compete to reach the qualifying or main draw. Tennis players of all levels can compete for men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles spots in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

“The US Open National Playoffs are all about giving players of all abilities the opportunity to dream big and be a part of the US Open,” said Katrina Adams, USTA chairman of the board, CEO and president. “This year, players have more ways than ever to make it to New York, with all five of the US Open’s draws in play. We look forward to another year of great tennis and watching top juniors, collegians, aspiring pros, and weekend warriors connect with the US Open and compete for the chance to play on tennis’ grandest stage.”

The Florida champions and the winners of the other 14 USTA Sections participating will advance to the following US Open National Playoffs Championship events that will take place in conjunction with the WTA tour’s Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies, an Emirates Airline US Open Series event, in New Haven, Conn.:

* Men’s and Women’s Singles Championship, Aug. 19-22
* Men’s and Women’s Doubles Championship, Aug. 21-24
* Mixed Doubles Championship, Aug. 24-27

The national tournament’s men’s and women’s singles champions will receive a wild card into the 2016 US Open Singles Qualifying Tournament. The men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles champions will receive a wild card into the main draw of the US Open.
