Tampa’s Allee Named USTA Florida Tennis Volunteer of the Month

Volunteer Of The Month

Captaining multiple USTA League teams while maintaining a full-time career as a Physician Anesthesiologist? This is not a problem for Joy Allee. Physician Anesthesiologists specialize in anesthesia care, pain management and critical care medicine. They have the necessary knowledge to understand and treat the entire human body. Balancing her work life with the sport seems to be the perfect recipe for Allee, mainly because she’s always “eager to meet new players in the area and connect them with teams that will nurture their talents.”

Having picked up a racquet at Walmart only 6 years ago probably attributes to her recruitment efforts in all levels of league play. Allee says, “It brings players of different talents and professions together, while providing a fun atmosphere to compete in.”

Born in Nigeria, Allee now plays and volunteers at the Hillsborough Community College Tennis Center. She is a devoted wife and mother to two young, energetic boys. Naturally, the ace down the line is Allee having added Volunteer USTA League Captain to her plate for a little over 2 years. Allee also manages Mixed 18 & Over and 40 & Over League teams and in fact resurrected a USTA 4.0 Night League that is geared toward the working woman.

Specifically recruiting ESL (English as a Second Language) players, Allee saw a need to create a fun space for competitive play as an outlet for this group of working women.

USTA Florida recognizes Joy Allee for seeing a gap that needed to be filled in her community- and delivering. She is an exemplary member of our #VolunteerAces and we thank her for her dedication to Florida tennis!
