Locals Take Home Titles at Raymond James Super Senior Grand Prix in St. Pete

More than 270 players competed in St. Petersburg Country Club’s USTA Category II men’s tournament, the Raymond James Super Senior Grand Prix.

Local singles champions included St. Petersburg’s Bob Meyerdierks in the 90-and-over round robin and George McCabe in the 85s.

Marc Mazo was runner up in the 65s and Bob Feder won the 70s consolation.

In doubles, Jeff Winkler and Fred Robinson of Charlotte, NC, won the 60s, Michael Erbe and Marvin Wilhite placed third in the 55s, as did Rich Bruer and Bill Christensen in the 70s.

Terry Tetzlaff and Reinaldo Valor were fourth in the 70s. David King and John Day won the 55s consolation draw.

‘Kiss My Ace’ Benefit Raises Nearly $3K for American Cancer Society

 

The fourth annual “Kiss My Ace Cancer” mixed doubles charity benefit at Tarpon Tennis Club netted nearly $3,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Tarpon Tennis’ Director Abby Kronk directed 60 players in a day of mixed doubles with competition in 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 divisions.

Winners, besides the ACS, were Laura Garza & Marvin Wilhite in the 9.0, Nabilla Jackson & Paul Doucette in the 8.0, Wendy & Steve Unger in the 7.0 and El & David Pielak in the 6.0.

East Lake Woodlands Charity Doubles in May

Men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles are on tap for the May 28-30 Memorial Day weekend charity benefit at East Lake Woodlands Country Club.

The 26th annual tournament includes competition in 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and open levels in men, women and mixed divisions.

FARA, Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance, will benefit from the proceeds of the tournament, and its silent and live auctions.
