The Tallahassee Tennis Association (TTA,) in partnership with the City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Affairs, held the annual Talahassee Tennis Championships, the biggest adult tournament of the year, on Nov. 18-20 at Forestmeadows Athletic Center.

Funds raised from the tournament are typically used to make court improvements, support community projects, and to assist players who advance to USTA League Nationals. Gender/mixed doubles and singles competition was offered in a best 2 out of 3 set format on clay courts. A consolation draw was also available for those losing in the first round.

A draw party for participants and guests was held on Thursday night to kick off the tournament. Players met their opponents, picked up goodie bags, had dinner, and socialized with friends in the tennis community. In addition, local tennis stars Owen Long, Blaze Schwartz and Mason Schneider, along with two FAMU players, Karlin and Augustine, graciously volunteered to entertain the crowd with an exciting doubles exhibition match during the draw party. Both pro-sets went to a tiebreaker.

The TTA provided the food for the draw party as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday and refreshments throughout the tournament.

Competition was hot and heavy on Friday night and all day Saturday with the majority of the 55 participants playing in at least two divisions. Tournament Director Kathy Maus kept play moving as much as possible to keep players engaged.

Although the tournament was in direct competition on Saturday with the FSU-Syracuse football game, numbers were still fairly good as compared to past participation! An unusually cold morning also made it a bit challenging on Sunday for some, but most players didn’t seem to mind.
