Community Tennis News

The Sarah Vande Berg (SVB) Tennis Foundation was among 88 organizations selected to receive a 2026 Competitive Grant from the Community Foundation Tampa Bay (CFTB), which awarded more than $2.5 million in grants this cycle.

The Community Foundation Tampa Bay received 426 applications this year, a 17% increase from last year. After an intense review process, 88 grants were awarded.

The SVB Tennis Foundation, comprised of local coaches, volunteers, educators and business owners, is dedicated to providing tennis and education programming in Pasco County communities through character-building, physical activity and mentoring.

The Foundation’s After-School Tennis and Education Outreach Program blends physical activity, life-skills curriculum and short classroom lessons to help young students develop a growth mindset and get excited about school, college and future opportunities.

“Community Foundation Tampa Bay’s Annual Competitive Grants program plays a critical role in strengthening the nonprofit sector and addressing the most pressing needs across our region, including investing in the Sarah Vande Berg Tennis Foundation,” said Eliza Cornejo, SVB Grants Manager.

“With the support of this grant, the SVB Tennis Foundation will continue offering free, holistic youth development programming that combines tennis and fitness with after-school academic engagement and life skills in underserved communities,” Cornejo added.

The grant underscores the growing recognition of tennis as a vehicle for youth development and community impact. By combining on-court instruction with academic engagement and life skills, the SVB Tennis Foundation is reaching young people in Pasco County who might not otherwise have access to the sport and the opportunities that come with it.
