Pinellas County’s Jose D’sa named USTA Florida Tennis Volunteer of the Month

USTA Florida Adult Leagues have over 57,000 players and behind every team is a captain who goes above and beyond organizing, coaching, and mentoring the team. That’s the case for June Volunteer of the Month, Jose D’sa. 

Jose started playing tennis four years ago in Pinellas County and instantly fell in love with the sport. He knew right away he wanted to do more than just play the game. 

Jose has been volunteering in tennis for the past four years.

Since starting, he has helped organize tennis for all skill levels, including running a handful of night league teams, which he captains. Jose also runs tennis on four of the five weekdays, reserving up to six courts for players to come out, improve their game, and socialize with others. 

He has had players call him from Wesley Chapel and St. Petersburg, asking if they could come out and play with his group of players. “I love volunteering because I enjoy bringing so many people together to experience tennis,” Jose said. 

One of his peers at Seminole Lake Tennis Country Club is proud to have Jose volunteering at their facility regarding him as one of the most welcoming people in the world and someone who always has time for players regardless of their skill level. “He is a prolific captain, not only putting together teams of his own, but also helping other teams form and recruit new captains,” they said. “He is especially helpful to the newer players, finding plenty of court time for 2.5 and 3.0 rated players.” 

Jose’s peers have noticed how open he is to helping other players.

Not only does Jose love to help organize tennis but also enjoys hitting with his wife and two kids. When Jose isn’t playing tennis, he is building things as he works in the construction field.
