Orange County’s Greg “Moose” DeMoustes named USTA Florida Tennis Volunteer of the Month

Community Tennis News Volunteer Aces Faces of Florida Tennis Volunteer Of The Month

There are many people in the tennis community who are living out USTA Florida’s mission of tennis for all, but some individuals are going above and beyond. Today, the organization is thrilled to name Greg “Moose” DeMoustes the April Volunteer of the Month.

If you have ever played tennis in Orange County, there’s a good chance that you have heard the name ‘Moose’ especially if you play at Lake Cane Tennis Center. Moose is currently the Director of Operations at Lake Cane, but even when he’s not working, he spends his free time giving back to the tennis community and spreading the joy of tennis to others.

Moose is the founder of ‘We Play for Pink’ and ‘We Play for Pride’ which are tennis events that fully support charities for Breast Cancer research and the LGBTQ+ community, specifically the Orlando Youth Alliance. Additionally, Moose is an original member of the USPTA National LGBTQ+ Task Force and serves on the USPTA Adaptive Task Force, serves as the USPTA Florida Regional President for Central Florida, and part of the Women Teach & Coaching Tennis Board.

He also volunteers his time to help promote USTA Florida initiatives such as the Community Coach Program, Love to Learn, and many more. Moose supports the growth of tennis and is always welcoming new players, coaches, and volunteers to the game.

Moose is currently part of the USTA Florida Leadership Academy and is set to graduate from the program in July. Being in the program has helped him expand his knowledge and become even more involved within the tennis industry. It has also taught him what it means to work with a team and push through the ups and downs of trying new things.

At a USTA Florida 75th Anniversary regional event in Orlando on April 15, Moose presented to nearly 300 people talking about his experience in the Leadership Academy and an experiment that he, and other people in the program, have been working on. His group’s experiment was focused on seeing how the app SwingVision can help promote sportsmanship in junior tennis.

When Moose isn’t volunteering, he loves to spend time with his family and friends, as well as travel, read and cook.

Volunteering has been one of his favorite things to do in tennis and he has many memories from the sport. “One of my favorite memories was having the opportunity to be a volunteer practice partner and ball boy for the Hamlet Cup Tournament the week before the US Open in 1997-98,” he recalled.

“I love volunteering because I get the opportunity to meet new people and bring joy to those around me while learning and growing the sport I LOVE,” he said.

As USTA Florida’s April Volunteer of the Month, the organization thanks Moose for his dedication to tennis, not only as a professional, but as a volunteer who gives back countless hours to the sport.
