Naples’ Vines on Winning U.S. Team at International Senior Tennis Championships

Florida’s Mark Vines of Naples was a member of the U.S. Von Cramm Cup tennis team (men’s 60 and over) that claimed the championship at the 2019 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Seniors World Team Championships, held at three clay-court venues in Lisbon, Oeiras and Estoril in Portugal.

The team defeated Germany 2-1 in the final. Also on the U.S. squad was Daniel Waldman (Washington, D.C.), Michael Tammen (captain, Portland, Ore.) and Ross Persons (Houston, Texas).

U.S. teams also claimed championships in the Maria Esther Bueno Cup (women’s 50s) and Alice Marble Cup (women’s 60s) divisions.

The tournament is the senior tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup competitions, with top American tennis players representing their country in the 50-, 55- and 60-and-over age groups.

Following the ITF Seniors World Team Championships, the World Individual Championships began August 10th, and run through the 17th.

Other Florida players competing on U.S. teams were Stuart Saiki of Orlando and Mary Dailey of Delray Beach.
