Last Chance for Florida Players to Register for NTRP 50 & Over National Tennis Qualifier

Adult Tennis News

Florida tennis competitors age 50 and over have their last chance to register for the USTA Florida State Closed NTRP 50 & Over Championships, a NTRP National Qualifier, that will be held Dec. 8-10, 2018 at the Tennis Center of Coral Springs for NTRP 3.0-4.5 players.

The tournament entry deadline is Dec. 6, 2018.

“This event gives recreational players a chance to qualify and compete at the national NTRP level,” says Tournament Director Lew Wolfe. “In partnership with the Tennis Center of Coral Springs the event will have amenities such as gift cards from TennisPlaza.com, healthy food appetizers throughout the weekend and player gifts. I want to create an event that the players look forward to playing every year.”

March 29-31, 2019 will be the date for the national 50 & Over 3.0-4.5 singles, and April 5-7, 2019 will see the 50 & Over 3.0-4.5 doubles contested, both at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.

“Florida players must play the Florida qualifying events in order to move onto the national event,” says USTA Florida Player Development Coordinator Andy Gladstone. “Florida division winners and division finalists will both qualify for the national event.”

The NTRP National Championships will feature non-elimination draws with two matches per day on Friday through Sunday; a format with best-of-three sets to four games, no-ad scoring, tiebreak at 3-all; and eight four-player round robins and that play into four eight-player single-elimination draws. Players must have a 2018 computer-generated NTRP rating to participate, and self-rated players are not eligible to participate.
