By Carson Phillips, Jacksonville-area USTA Local League Coordinator

A kick-off party for our new Mixed-Up Doubles Social League for Nassau County was held on March 2, 2018 at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort on Amelia Island, where approximately 45 players were eager to join in the new World TeamTennis modified format of women’s, men’s and mixed doubles.

This brand-new league will start early April and will feature four teams of men and women. The season will run to the end of June and match play will be on Friday nights.

Registration will remain open during the entire season so anyone is welcome to join. Current USTA membership is required and there is a $25 league fee for each participant. We will use the courts at the City of Fernandina facility, the Omni and Amelia National.

Each match will use the format of one line of mixed doubles, one line of women’s doubles and one line of men’s doubles. Ratings will range from 2.5-3.5 players for all teams, and anyone 18 years or older will be eligible to join.

Please call or email with any questions about this fun opportunity offered for Nassau County residents. This is the first of new regional league opportunities for Nassau, and we hope to provide more of this league type so players can take advantage of less travel time getting to matches and enjoy a social league experience.
