Florida Tennis Wounded Warriors Can Apply for May 2018 National Camp

Florida wounded, ill or injured tennis-playing service members can apply for the 7th Annual National Wounded Warrior Tennis Camp, to be held on May 6-12, 2018, with travel days on May 6 and 12, at the Balboa Tennis Club in San Diego, Calif.

All transportation, lodging, meals, equipment, instruction, and social events will be covered, except airline baggage fees and incidental expenses. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required upon acceptance to the camp to ensure maximum participation.

“The tennis camp is open to wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans of all ages from across the country,” says Director of Military Outreach for the San Diego District Tennis Association Steve Kappes. “It is part of a nationally-recognized year-round program established in 2009 that uses tennis as a means of physical and emotional rehabilitation and community re-integration.”

The program is run in collaboration with Naval Medical Center San Diego and VA Medical Center San Diego. The camp consists of 16 hours of tennis instruction and evening social events designed to improve participants’ quality of life through tennis and camaraderie, with follow-on referrals to tennis programs in participants’ hometowns.

The application deadline is Feb. 16, 2018.
