Florida Pros Stephens, Collins, and Kenin Selected for Team USA at 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals

General News Pro Tennis

USTA and Billie Jean King Cup Captain Kathy Rinaldi revealed the five players that will represent the United States of America in the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, with three of the women coming from Florida.

Danielle Collins, Sofia Kenin, and Sloane Stephens were all chosen to represent the nation at this prestigious event. The action is unfolding on November 7 through November 12 on Hard Indoor Courts in Seville, Spain.

Collins is currently ranked No. 33 in singles and has had deep runs in a handful of Grand Slams. Reigning from St. Petersburg, this is her third time competing in the BJK Cup with a 5-1 record in singles matches.

Danielle Collins has a 5-1 record in BJK Cup Singles matches.

The youngest member of the team comes from Pembroke Pines in Sofia Kenin. However, she is no stranger to the spotlight, especially in the BJK Cup. This will be her fourth time appearing in the event, when she made her debut back in 2018. She also won the 2020 Australian Open.

Rounding out the Florida players, is veteran Sloane Stephens. She was part of the team in 2017, when the USA last won the BJK Cup (known as the Fed Cup at that time). Stephens also took home the 2017 US Open title, and her experience is a great asset to the team.

Madison Keys and Taylor Townsend are the other two American women representing the nation.

Back in April, the USA team for the BJK Cup Qualifying round in Delray Beach, featured 2023 US Open Champion and Florida’s own, Coco Gauff, who helped lead the team to a 4-0 win over Austria. Gauff won her singles match 6-1, 6-3 and partnered up with Caty McNally to win their doubles match 6-1, 6-4.

Coco Gauff, who won her first Grand Slam at the 2023 US Open, will not compete in the BJK Cup Finals.

Gauff recently announced that she is withdrawing from the Zhengzhou Open with a shoulder injury, but ensured fans that she just needs a little rest. She is expected to be in action for the WTA Finals on October 30 through November 5, which is just a few days before the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

Team USA has won the most Billie Jean King Cup titles in the tournament’s 60-year history with 18. The tournament was founded in 1963 as the Federation Cup and was renamed to the Billie Jean King Cup in 2020 to honor King’s accomplishments both on and off of the court. The US Open also celebrated 50 years of equal pay at this year’s Grand Slam, a milestone that Billie Jean King worked extremely hard for.
