Sunday FUNday Mixed Doubles League Kicks Off at Kiwi Tennis Club

A new mixed doubles league started in Brevard County in October, designed to be a purely fun and social experience for all players.

It’s a great opportunity for people who have never played in USTA League to get a taste of how much fun it can be. USTA membership is not required to participate. There will be two flights, 6.5 and 7.5, with teams from all over the county.

The kick-off round robin was held at Kiwi Tennis Club in September with more than 40 people attending. The Beach Fusion Restaurant provided some great food, Kiwi Club donated the court time, and league coordinator Pat Dempsey was the master of ceremonies.

Volusia County 40 & Over 6.0 Mixed Team Qualifies for USTA League Nationals

The 40 & Over 6.0 mixed doubles team from Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach with captain Jim Devis at the helm squeaked by with a tight win at the sectional tournament this past June to advance to USTA League Nationals.

They were all very excited to have the opportunity to represent Florida at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile Ala., in November. The team roster includes: Barbara Bonarrigo, Chris Tepovich, David Spitzer, Diana Gopen, Exe Rahnefeld, Janie Panasis, Martin Barrett, Russell McDonald, Saroj Kasturi, and Thu-Ha Burwell.

Team captain Jim Devis told me it was a very tight match in the finals against Leon County, but we pulled through and now have a wonderful opportunity. It’s going to be great fun.

Good luck Team Florida. We are proud of you.
