Five Counties Triumphant Adult 65 & Over 6.0/7.0/8.0 Sectional Championships

Fall tennis is in full swing and what better way to welcome it than with some Adult League Sectionals. More than 20 teams gathered at the USTA National Campus to compete in the Adult 65 & Over 6.0/7.0/8.0 Sectional Championships.  

With five different divisions in play, the competition was fierce. Four of the divisions were played through round robin play, with everyone getting a chance to compete against each other, while the other division was decided by the top pool play teams in a championship match.   

For the 6.0 Women’s, Hillsborough team from Sun City Center came out firing, winning every single match they played over the weekend. In the Women’s 8.0 it was the same result for Marion County’s team from the Nancy Lopez Legacy Tennis Center, who also won all of their matches to win the sectional title.  

The closet round robin came in the 8.0 Men’s side, where Marion and Pinellas were in a battle. Both teams finished with a 2-1 record, but Marion took the head-to-head and edged them out in game winning percentage to win the title.   

In the Men’s 7.0 it was all Duval County, who won all four of their matches over the week and took home first place. 

For the Women’s 7.0 the championship match was thrilling with Duval and Collier teams coming out of pool play. The ladies were fighting and ultimately, it was Duval that pulled out a close 2-1 victory.

Final Results: Hillsborough County (Sun City Center) finished in first place of the round robin with a 3-0 record, while Collier County (Bonita National Golf and Country Club) were runners-up with a 2-1 record

Final Results: Collier County (Club At Longshore Lake) finished in first place of the round robin with a 4-0 record, while Broward County (Weston Racquet Club) were runners-up with a 2-2 record

Final Results: Marion County (USTA National Campus) finished in first place of the round robin with a 2-1 record and 55% game win rate, while Pinellas County (City of Clearwater) were runners-up with a 2-1 record and 47% game win rate.
