David Ensignia Tennis Academy Leads Court Resurfacing at Miccosukee Golf & Country Club Following USTA Grant
At Miccosukee Golf & Country Club, tennis is a year-round way of life. From red-ball beginners just learning to swing a racquet to varsity high schoolers and adult league competitors, the courts at Miccosukee stay full of players of every age and ability. Now, thanks to a $25,000 USTA Tennis Venue Services Category II Grant, those courts have a fresh surface to match the energy of the community that fills them.
The grant funded a full resurfacing of all four of the club’s tennis courts, a project under the leadership of the David Ensignia Tennis Academy, which manages the tennis programs and facility at Miccosukee. The resurfacing brought major improvements in playability, safety, and overall court conditions. For a facility that serves roughly 150 players each week, and welcomes even more during peak seasons such as summer camps and tournament weekends, the upgrades were felt almost right away.

“The support from this grant has had a meaningful impact on our facility and the community we serve. The resurfaced courts not only improve safety and playability but also allow us to expand our programming and welcome more players of all ages and levels,” David Ensignia Sr., said.
With work taking place during the summer months last year, frequent rain stretched the timeline, and the site also faced an unexpected incident during construction. Even with those setbacks, the team and project partners stayed focused, kept the work moving, and delivered a high-quality result the community can be proud of.
Programming and Play at Miccosukee
Junior development programs and 10 and Under tennis run alongside USTA-sanctioned tournaments. Adult leagues share the calendar with Junior Team Tennis and varsity high school matches. Seasonal camps fill the courts in summer, spring, and winter. From sunrise to sundown, there is almost always tennis being played somewhere on the property.
At the heart of that schedule is one program the Miccosukee team is especially proud of; the After School Junior Programs. Serving players ages 4 to 17 across all levels of play, including Red, Orange, Green, and Yellow Ball, the program has shown strong retention and engagement, giving young players a steady pathway to grow with the game. Families have found a place where their kids can build skills, make friends, and stay active right after the school day ends, and many of those young players come back season after season to keep developing.
The resurfaced courts are also opening the door for new programs in 2026. The club is launching its “Love to Learn” initiative, a welcoming entry point for beginners that aims to bring even more new players into the community. It is the kind of program that turns first-time players into lifelong fans of the sport, and a fresh, modernized facility provides the perfect setting to make that first experience a great one.
Why It’s Important to Invest in Tennis Infrastructure
For the team at David Ensignia Tennis Academy, the impact of the grant goes well beyond fresh court surfaces.
“These types of investments are essential to growing the game and creating a positive, active environment where families and athletes can continue to develop and enjoy tennis,” David Ensignia Sr., added.

That sentiment speaks to a bigger truth about tennis infrastructure. Quality courts shape the player experience, drive program participation, and support long-term community engagement. Well-kept facilities create a sense of pride among players and families, and they give clubs and parks the ability to safely host a wider range of events, tournaments, and everyday play.
What’s Next for Miccosukee
Looking ahead, the vision at Miccosukee is clear. David Ensignia Tennis Academy aims to make the Miccosukee Golf & County Club a leading example of tennis development at every level, building on a dedicated professional team and a high-quality facility to expand access to the sport, promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and provide a safe, motivating environment where players of all ages can learn, compete, and thrive.
For USTA Florida, projects like this reflect one of the organization’s Big Bold Moves, where best in class facilities are a must, especially in community parks, as this is where many players begin their tennis journey. From small neighborhood parks to large multi-court complexes, the section continues to push for the kind of community court investment that keeps tennis growing in every corner of the state.
