For Hispanic Heritage month, we would like to introduce to a wonderful family from Fellsmere:
The family consists of Gloria Rosas, Coordinator of the Tenis para Todos program in Fellsmere, her sisters Adriana Sergel and Patrica Portugal who are current volunteers of the program, Scott Sergel Gloria’s brother in law who also volunteers for the tennis program, Gloria’s nieces Jessica Aguilar and Abigail Aguilar who used to attend the tennis camp provided to this community six years ago and are now happy to give back to the community by volunteering , Diego Rosas Gloria’s son who is also a volunteer and Gloria’s nephew and niece Scott Sergel and Nayelli Sergel who are currently registered and attending the tennis program, which kicked off on September 27th, 2014. All live in Fellsmere Florida, originally from Mexico and are extremely excited to be part of the new tennis program in Fellsmere through the USTA Florida Hispanic Outreach Initiative Tenis para Todos.
How did you get involved in tennis?
6 years ago some members of the family (Gloria’s nieces) participated in a summer tennis camp that lasted for 1 or 2 weeks. Gloria also assisted then coordinating the activities. Now most family members are involved one way or the other through Tenis para Todos.
How many of the family members are involved?
10. We enjoyed playing this sport, helping our community and participating in the program in the case of our younger family members.
What do you like most about the sport?
Exercising, spending time with the family and other people in the community, helping so other people can also enjoy this wonderful sport.
How has tennis impacted your life as family and as Hispanics?
As a Hispanic family it has allowed us to spend time together and play a sport that was not seen as accessible to us before. We have now learned that tennis is a sport for everyone and all communities. With the help from USTA Florida and all the tools they have provided us we can play and give the opportunity to many individuals in the Fellsmere community to do so as well.

En el mes de herencia Hispana, queremos presentarte a una gran familia de Fellsmere:
La familia esta conformada por Gloria Rosas, Coordinadora del programa de Tenis para Todos en Fellsmere, Adriana Sergel y Patricia Portugal, hermanas de Gloria y voluntarias para el programa, Scott Sergel su cuñado quien también es voluntario para el programa de tenis, sus sobrinas Jessica Aguilar y Abigail Aguilar quienes fueron participantes del programa de tenis varios años atrás y ahora son voluntarias para ofrecer el tenis a otros niños en esta comunidad, Diego Rosas hijo de Gloria quien también es voluntario y sus dos sobrinos Scott Sergel y Nayelli Sergel quienes participan en el programa. Ellos viven en Fellsmere Florida, son de México y están emocionados por hacer parte del nuevo programa de tenis a través de la iniciativa Tenis para Todos de USTA Florida.
Como se involucraron con el tenis?
Hace 6 años algunos miembros de la familia (sus sobrinas) participaban en un campamento de verano de una o dos semanas. Gloria también ayudaba en ese tiempo a coordinar las actividades.
Cuantos miembros de la familia juegan o están actualmente involucrados con el tenis?
10. Nos encanta disfrutar de este deporte ya sea ayudando a la comunidad o participando en el caso de los familiares mas pequeños.
Que es lo que mas les gusta del Tenis?
Hacer ejercicio, compartir con la familia y gente de nuestra comunidad y ayudar a que otros puedan también disfrutar de este deporte.
Como ha impactado el tenis la vida de ustedes como familia y como hispanos?
Como familia hispana nos permite pasar tiempo juntos y jugar un deporte que aparentemente no era accesible para nosotros. Sin embargo, nos damos cuenta que el tenis es un deporte para todos y todas la comunidades ya que USTA Florida nos ha brindado las herramientas necesarias para poder jugarlo y brindarle la oportunidad de jugar a otras personas en Fellsmere.
