Blog: Florida 18 & Over Open Tennis Team at USTA League Nationals

Adelaide Wood is blogging for USTA Florida from Las Vegas where her team is competing at the USTA National Open 18 & Over League Championships on Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Darling Tennis Center.

Day 1: Pre Game

In the weary hours of the morning, Florida’s finest made their way to Vegas.

With bags under our eyes we managed to find each other in the heart of the McCarran airport. Unfamiliar with the dry climate we felt a little out of place.

Making our way to our hotel — The JW Mariott baby, we felt at home!! The tournament host hotel was more than enough to get us excited for the days ahead. After settling in our KING size beds we made our way to the courts. The tournament officials were more than welcoming with gifts and warm smiles! It was fascinating to see where other competitors had journeyed from for the tournament. At this moment we felt humbled and #blessed.

Stepping onto the court we quickly adapted to the thin air and high altitude, putting in a strong practice #beastmode.

We ended our practice with some team bonding and preparation for the next day….truly Kodak moments.
