Berdusco-Winegar Win B16 Title at USTA Int. Spring Championships Tennis

Bradenton’s 16-year-old Russell Berdusco and Sarasota’s 15-year-old Theo Winegar defeated unseeded Hunter Heck of Minnesota and Alexander Petrov of California 2-6, 6-1, 11-9 for the boys’ 16s doubles title at the USTA International Spring Championships in Carson, Calif.

The No. 6-seeded Florida duo upset the No. 3-seeded team of Matthew Che and Eliot Spizzirri 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

Berdusco-Winegar survived third-set super-breakers in both the semifinals and finals.

Berdusco is a former Florida state doubles champion, in 2015 winning the boys’ 14s division at the USTA Florida “Bobby Curtis” Junior State Doubles Championships with partner Thomas Lake.
