Austin Krajicek & Coco Gauff Lead Florida Players at 2023 Wimbledon

The Wimbledon Grand Slam is just around the corner, and the tennis world is buzzing with excitement. There are many talented players ready to take on the historic grass courts, and several are USTA Florida pros. Let’s take a closer look at these remarkable athletes who are prepared to showcase their skills on the grand stage. 

Florida will be well represented once again with eight athletes taking part in the summer showdown. Coco Gauff (Delray Beach), Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg), Sloane Stephens (Plantation), Sebastian Korda (Bradenton), Ben Shelton (Gainesville), Austin Krajicek (Tampa), Nicole Melichar-Martinez (Stuart), and Sofia Kenin (Pembroke Pines) will look to make Florida proud at the third Grand Slam of the year.

Hot off the press is Austin Krajicek, who is coming off a Doubles French Open Championship! Krajicek and his partner Ivan Dodig (Croatia) are looking for back-to-back titles after they claimed their first major title as a duo just a month ago. This victory secured them the No. 1 Ranking in the world, the first time this pair has achieved this. 

Coco Gauff, at just 19 years old, has already made waves in the tennis world with her incredible talent on the court. Her pro career practically started at Wimbledon, back in 2019, when she captured the world’s attention and became the youngest to win a main draw match since 1991 at just 15 years old. Now, she’s looking to capture her first major title. 

Another USTA Florida player who has made some deep runs in Grand Slam events is Danielle Collins. She is no stranger to the big stage, having reached the finals of the Australian Open in 2022, she has the skills and determination to win in any tournament. 

Danielle Collins is looking to make a deep run at Wimbledon this year.

Sloane Stephens also joins the Ladies Single’s draw for Florida. Stephens, a former US Open champion, is deep into her career, but is still competing with the best in the world. She reached the quarterfinals back in 2013 at Wimbledon and would love to push even further at this year’s event. 

Joining in the Doubles draw is Nicole Melichar-Martinez. She made the finals of Wimbledon back in 2018 and just a month ago reached the semis of the French Open. We know she has the potential to win, and she is definitely someone that has high hopes for Wimbledon this year. 

Finally, Sofia Kenin rounds out the women in the singles draw as she battled all the way through qualifying this week. Kenin, a former Grand Slam champion, returned from injury this year and is looking to pick back up where she left off. 

Also representing Florida is the young star Ben Shelton, who is making his Wimbledon debut this year. Shelton broke into the scene late last year and had a great Australian Open to kick off his 2023. He has what it takes to defeat the best, so definitely keep an eye on him throughout the tournament. 

Sebastian Korda is one of three men from Florida in Wimbledon.

Joining them is Sebastian Korda who is looking to follow in his dad’s footsteps and win a Grand Slam. Korda won the Junior Australian Open 20 years after his father, Petr Korda, won the main draw in 1998. Korda made his first quarterfinals at a Grand Slam at this year’s Australian Open and has what it takes to do that again in London.
