Eight Florida community tennis organizations received tennis grants totaling approximately $5,000 in the month of July from the USTA Florida Foundation, the charitable arm of the United States Tennis Association-Florida Section (USTA Florida).

Recipients of grants were organizations ranging from charity organizations to city programs to after-school programs for at-risk students to tennis associations and centers, in Daytona Beach, Lake City, Lake Park, Oldsmar, Ormond Beach, Palm Coast, Quincy and Titusville.

“The beauty of Junior Team Tennis is to watch each child compete and see them thrive by testing themselves with problem solving with each point they play,” said City of Clearwater Recreational Programmer Lori Burdell, who received JTT help through a grant to the Suncoast Tennis Foundation. “The City of Clearwater and USTA Florida are very adamant about recognizing good sportsmanship, so awards were given in this category in each division — red, orange and green dot.”

USTA Florida Foundation grants offer funding for youth tennis programs, adaptive tennis programs for those with special needs, community tennis programs in economically challenged areas, along with facility assistance in the renovation, refurbishment and building of quality public tennis facilities.

Since 2010, USTA Florida and the USTA Florida Foundation have awarded more than $1,000,000 in grants for tennis programs serving people of all ages and abilities throughout Florida.
