3 Teams Defend, Broward Wins 2 at USTA Florida 18 & Over League Tennis Sectionals

Three teams successfully defended championships from last year, and Broward County took home two titles among the highlights at the 2015 USTA Florida Adult 18 & Over 3.0/4.0/5.0 League Sectional Championships, held Aug. 7-9 in Altamonte Springs and Daytona Beach.

Repeating as champions were Orange/Seminole counties (Women’s 3.0 flight), Volusia County (Men’s 3.0), and Miami-Dade County-South (Men’s 4.0). Broward County won both the Women’s 4.0 and Men’s 5.0+ championships, while Hillsborough County was also a winner in the Women’s 5.0+ flight.

Duval County suffered a heartbreaking three second-place finishes, while Broward County almost made it three titles over the weekend, edged 3-2 in the Men’s 4.0 final.

The Florida 3.0 men’s and women’s champions advance to the 2015 USTA League Adult 18 & Over 3.0 National Championships on Oct. 2-4 in Tucson, Ariz.

The Florida 4.0 men’s and women’s champions advance to the 2015 USTA League Adult 18 & Over 4.0 National Championships on Oct. 2-4 in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

The Florida 5.0+ men’s and women’s champions advance to the 2015 USTA League Adult 18 & Over 5.0+ National Championships on Oct. 2-4 in Indian Wells, Calif.

The 5.0+ level allows up to two 5.5-rated players on a roster, where the players must compete in the No. 1 singles or No. 1 doubles positions. The NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) scale progresses from 2.5 (beginner) to 5.0 (advanced) for USTA Florida League championship events.
