Florida Juniors Named to United States Teams for Junior World Team Event Qualifying
Four Florida players are among the 12 top American juniors nominated by the USTA to represent the United States in Qualifying for the world’s premier boys’ and girls’ team competitions. Qualifying for all four events will be played April 15-17 on indoor hard courts inside IGA Stadium in Montreal, Canada.
Teodor Davidov (Bradenton) will compete on the Junior Davis Cup team, which faces Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico in pool play. Welles Newman (Boca Raton) earned a spot on the Billie Jean King Cup roster, which will also take on Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. On the boys’ side of ITF World Junior Tennis, Rex Kulman (Fort Lauderdale) and Max Smith (Parkland) will represent the U.S. against Canada, Costa Rica, and Mexico.
The Qualifying rounds consist of three days of round-robin play, with each matchup featuring two singles matches and one doubles match. The top two countries from each four-country pool will advance to the event finals later this year.
The United States enters this year’s competitions as the reigning champions in three of the four categories: Junior Billie Jean King Cup, Junior Davis Cup, and World Junior Tennis Girls. The United States is the four-time reigning champion in Junior Billie Jean King Cup and two-time reigning champion in Junior Davis Cup after becoming the first nation to ever sweep those titles in consecutive years in 2025.
All four Florida players will look to help continue that winning tradition when competition begins April 15 in Montreal.
