Bobby Curtis Junior State Championships Youth Tennis News

The players are ready, and the stage is set as USTA Florida’s most prestigious junior tournament, the Bobby Curtis Junior State Championships, is about to take place.

Taking place over 10 days at the USTA National Campus, Florida’s best junior tennis athletes will gather for competitive matches with their eyes set on lifting the trophy. The 16s and 18s divisions will take the courts first, from June 7 to June 11. Then, the 12s and 14s will have their moment in the spotlight from June 14 to June 18.

Many big names have competed in this tournament, and some have even gone on to be the top rank in the world. Those former winners include Chris Evert (1971 18s, 1970-69 16s, 1968 14s, and 1966 10s champion), Jennifer Capriati (1986 12s champion), Jim Courier (1986 18s champion) and Andy Roddick (1996 14s, 1994 12s champion).

Other notable winners over the years include Danielle Collins (2011 & 2009 18s, 2006 12s), Amanda Anisimova (2014 14s, 2011 10s), and Sofia Kenin (2010 12s); three-time Grand Slam runner-up and two-time Olympic gold medalist Mary Joe Fernandez (1983 14s, 1982 12s); former world No. 8-ranked Carling Bassett (1980 12s); former world No. 7 and former US Billie Jean King Cup Coach Kathy Rinaldi (1980 14s, 1979 12s).

This year, USTA Florida will not be using the Match Tennis App. Check-in for each match will take place at the tournament desk 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time. All matches will be played on the USTA National Clay Courts, where the main draw will be a best-of-three sets, with the third set being a tiebreaker.
