Jay Berger

Jay Berger is a former top-10 American tennis player who reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 7 in April 1990. He won three singles titles and one doubles title on the ATP Tour and reached the quarterfinals of both the French Open and US Open in 1989. Known for his gritty play and mental toughness, Berger earned victories over legends like Boris Becker, Pete Sampras, and Stefan Edberg. He was a two-time All-American at Clemson University and won the USTA Boys’ 18s National Championship in 1985. After retiring in 1991 due to knee injuries, Berger transitioned into coaching and leadership, serving as Head of Men’s Tennis for the USTA and coaching at the University of Miami. He was inducted into the Florida Tennis Hall of Fame and remains a respected figure in American tennis.
