Gigi Fernández

Former Professional Tennis Player

Gigi Fernández is a former professional tennis player and one of the most successful doubles competitors in history. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she won 17 Grand Slam doubles titles and two Olympic gold medals representing the United States. She reached world No. 1 in doubles and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2010. Fernández won 14 of her major titles with partner Natasha Zvereva, forming one of the most dominant pairs of the Open Era. She also reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 17 and was a Wimbledon semifinalist. After retiring in 1997, Fernández became a coach, entrepreneur, and advocate for tennis education. She created The Gigi Method to teach doubles strategy and founded Tennis for Hope to support communities affected by natural disasters. She continues to lead clinics and camps nationwide.
