Coco Gauff Wins Roland Garros Securing Second Career Singles Grand Slam
Coco Gauff captured her second career Grand Slam singles title in thrilling fashion at Roland Garros, winning the 2025 French Open in Paris. The 21-year-old Delray Beach native battled back from a set down to defeat Aryna Sabalenka 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 in an exciting final that once again solidified her as one of the brightest stars in the tennis world.
In front of a packed crowd, Gauff showed resilience to become the champion. Despite dropping an intense first-set tiebreak, she regrouped quickly and played some great tennis. She took the second set in commanding fashion, winning 6-2. Gauff battled the entire third set and found the break she needed to take the set 6-4 and capture her second Grand Slam Single’s Title.
This French Open win adds another major milestone to Gauff’s rapidly growing legacy. She becomes the first American to win the French Open since Serena Williams did in 2015. This also marks back-to-back wins on the famous clay courts. In 2024, Gauff won the Double’s title with Katerina Siniakova.
Gauff’s previous Grand Slam win also impacted her hometown in Delray Beach. Following her 2023 US Open victory, the USTA created the US Open Legacy Initiative, where USTA allocated $3 million to renovate courts at public tennis facilities across the country. This matched the prize money Gauff won from the 2023 US Open, which celebrated 50 years of equal prize money. The courts at Pompey Park, in Delray Beach, were one of many to have be resurfaced thanks to her win at the US Open.
Now with two Grand Slam titles under her belt, Coco Gauff has firmly established herself among the elite in women’s tennis on the courts. Off the courts, she continues to be an inspiration to many, especially young girls who are looking to make a name for themselves in the sport. USTA Florida congratulates Gauff on this well-deserved achievement!
