Celebrating National Wellness Month with Back-to-School Trainings

Community Tennis News

August is National Wellness Month, a time to focus on self-care, healthy routines, and overall well-being. At USTA Florida, we believe tennis is more than just a sport, it’s a lifelong pathway to physical, mental, and social wellness. This month, we’re proud to celebrate wellness by continuing to expand access to tennis in schools and after-school programs across the state.

As part of our organization’s ongoing mission to grow the game and promote healthy lifestyles, USTA Florida is once again partnering with school districts to train Physical Education (PE) teachers to bring tennis into their classrooms for the 2025–2026 school year. These trainings equip educators with the tools, curriculum, and confidence to introduce tennis in a fun, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate way.

In August, USTA Florida will be training these PE professionals in Pinellas CountyCollier County, and Orange County, with St. John’s County scheduled for October. These sessions have been a key initiative of USTA Florida for nearly a decade, ensuring that students of all backgrounds have the opportunity to experience the physical and mental benefits of tennis.

USTA Florida is also extending its reach beyond the school day. In Orange County, over 30 after-school programs are set to receive tennis training to integrate the sport into their enrichment offerings. Additionally, Broward County, one of the largest school districts in the country, is set to receive after-school tennis trainings as well.

Research shows that tennis is the healthiest sport, offering cardiovascular benefits just by playing for three hours a week. It also provides improved coordination, stress relief, social connection, and adds nearly 10 years to your life. It’s a sport for all ages and abilities, making it the perfect sport for promoting wellness in schools and communities alike.

These school and after-school partnerships are part of a larger vision to make tennis accessible, sustainable, and impactful across Florida, especially in the youth.

This National Wellness Month, USTA Florida invites you to celebrate by picking up a racquet, supporting local tennis programs, or simply spreading the word about the power tennis has to improve overall health on and off the court.
