ORLANDO, FLA., APRIL 15, 2024 – The USTA Florida Orlando Regional Event celebrated the past, present, and future of the organization. From honoring the first women president, Marian Green to looking ahead to future industry leaders, it was a celebration to remember.
As honoring achievements was a common theme, USTA Florida was honored to award people, organizations, and families for their outstanding work in the tennis community. Look at the newest hall of fame member, Merit Award, Family, and Organization of the Year.
Robert Hollis was inducted into the USTA Florida Hall of Fame.
Robert Hollis, an impactful figure in the tennis community for over four decades, was inducted into the USTA Florida Hall of Fame. Beginning his journey in 1978, Robert’s passion for tennis led him to volunteer with Lake County’s Junior Team Tennis program, known as Domino’s Team Tennis. He played a pivotal role in its growth, including hosting the Lakeland JTT State Championships. Throughout his tenure, Robert received accolades such as the JTT Volunteer of the Year Award and the USTA Florida Merit Award. He served on various committees and held multiple positions on the USTA Florida Board of Directors. Robert’s leadership and commitment have significantly enriched junior tennis programs statewide, leaving behind a legacy that inspires future generations.
Marcelo Gouts (middle) was the recipient of the 2024 Merit Award.
Marcelo Gouts, a tennis coaching veteran since 1984, was honored with the Merit Award. His journey began in Central Florida, at Lake Cane Tennis Center, where he’s dedicated himself to nurturing tennis talent and promoting the sport’s growth. Marcelo’s extensive volunteer work spans over 10 years, including roles on the USTA Florida Board of Directors and contributions to initiatives like Love to Learn, Love to Play, and USTA Adult Leagues. His advocacy for tennis in public parks and commitment to community building have left a positive impact on Florida’s tennis landscape.
The David Ensignia Family has been making an impact and won the Outstanding Family Award.
The David Ensignia Family was recognized as the Family of the Year for their 35-year legacy of promoting tennis. From their roots in South America to their current home in Miami, the family’s passion for the sport has transcended generations. David Sr., David Jr., and Diana have collectively contributed to the success of the David Ensignia Tennis Academy (DETA), fostering the development of future tennis stars and enriching the local tennis community through tournaments, programs, and outreach efforts.
Fort King Tennis Center won the Outstanding Organization Award.
Fort King Tennis Center was awarded Organization of the Year for its longstanding commitment to serving Marion County’s tennis community. With a rich history spanning over 30 years, the center has been a cornerstone of tennis development in the region. Offering a wide range of programs and initiatives, including league play, junior tennis, and adaptive programs, Fort King has provided a welcoming and inclusive environment for players of all ages and skill levels.
