The Florida High School Athletic Association hosted the 2022 Tennis State Championship for Classes 2A and 4A from April 27 through April 29.

It was an exciting three days of tennis as many top players from around the state gathered to battle it out. In 4A, Lake Nona Boys and Doral Academy Girls came out victorious on the team side, while also having some players take home Overall honors.

For Lake Nona, it was the dream run. The Lions had never won a State Championship, with their best result coming in 2019 as a finalist. However, Harrison Michalowski and Kartik Mandla led the team by winning all three of their Doubles matches and taking the Overall Championship.

Lake Nona’s Harrison Michalowski and Kartik Mandla won the overall Doubles in 4A.

Over on the girl’s side, Doral Academy repeated as champs, but in a different way. Last year, the team was in Class 3A, but they moved up to 4A this year.

The team looked like they hadn’t missed a stride from the previous year. Doral dropped one game in the entire tournament, and defeated Vero Beach 5-1 in the finals. Valeria Ray also won the Overall Singles bracket for the second straight year.

For 2A, the Pine Crest Boy’s team found themselves on top of the competition for the second year in a row, while the Gulliver Prep ladies won their second title in three years.

Pine Crest was led by its Line 2 player, Zaid Abuhamda, who won all of his Singles matches in convincing fashion. Meanwhile, Gulliver Prep Girls were dominant on all fronts as the team only dropped a single match on their way to the championship.
