Preview: USTA Florida Combo League Tennis Sectionals at USTA National Campus

Local USTA League championship teams from across Florida will be the first to experience the new USTA National Campus in Orlando when the USTA Florida Combo 18 & Over 6.5/8.5 League Championships are held this weekend, Jan. 6-8, 2017. More than 500 players will compete to bring home the team title of USTA Florida League state champions.

The technologically-advanced USTA National Campus features more than 100 tennis courts, with 26 Smart Courts featuring Hawkeye-like technology and video and statistical breakdowns of play. Eighty-four of the courts feature live streaming to watch family and friends compete via the internet. For more info on the USTA National Campus go to www.ustanationalcampus.com.


“The Pro Shop at the Home of American Tennis will be giving away a free Adidas Barricade backpack with any purchase of Adidas Product over $100 dollars,” says Josh Record, coordinator of events for the USTA National Campus.

Teams defending Combo sectional titles from last season are Alachua County (Men’s 6.5), Seminole County (Women’s 6.5), Lee County (Men’s 8.5), and Marion County (Women’s 8.5). The competing teams represent various clubs, parks, recreational departments and organizations that finished at the top of their local leagues during the Combo league season in the state of Florida to advance to the sectional championships.

For Combo doubles-only division play, the combined NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) ratings of each doubles team may not exceed the level in which they are competing, and the NTRP rating difference between members of an individual doubles pair may not exceed 0.5. Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 participants in a few parts of the country in its first year to more than 904,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league. The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
