Carlos Gomez-Diaz of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. defeated Ramon Bernal of Woodbridge, Va., 5-4 in the finals of the One-On-One Doubles National Men's 35s Tournament held during the USTA National Men's 35s Clay Court Championships at the Veltri Tennis Center in Plantation, Fla.

Mardy Fish and Xavier Malisse will face off in singles at the Tennis Exhibition on Saturday, Nov. 22. Immediately following, host Tom Gullikson paired with Sebastien Grosjean, will play Jimmy Arias and MaliVai Washington in doubles.
“It is exciting for tennis in the City of Miami,” said Cathy Nordlund, USTA Florida S. Region 8 Community Coordinator. “There is a wonderful push from the community for more USTA tennis programming in the area and this training will help build quality tennis programs people are looking for.”
Although finishing second at a tennis tournament may be reward in itself, to 13-year-old Aaron Kupin of Boca Raton, it was just icing on the cake. Last month, Aaron competed at the Halloween Super Series hosted by the City of Delray Beach, Oct. 11-13 at the Delray Beach Tennis Center and raised $635.00 over the two-day tournament for Autism Speaks, the National Advocacy Program for Autism.
Playing against a very strong French team, the US women lost in the finals, 3-0 to bring home the silver for the U.S. in the 2008 Alice Marble Cup competition. At No.2 singles for the U.S. team was Betty Wachob of Panama City!
Congratulations to Louis and Lynn Vosloo of Key Biscayne, who defeated Marc Keleske and Vicki Leroux of Vail, Colo. 6-3,6-3 to capture the national title at the USTA Husband-Wife Clay Court Championships in Ponte Vedra, Oct. 24-26.
Royal Racquet Club hosted the 1st Annual Maurader Tennis Classic benefiting the Jimmy McFarland Scholarship Fund for Clearwater Central Catholic High School (CCCHS), Oct. 11-12. Over $12,000 was raised for the scholarship fund, which honors Jimmy McFarland (CCCHS Class of 2002), who was severely injured in a car accident.
